Animal Poem - KonGrilla

It’s game time,
My heart is racing,
I feel the butterflies in my stomach.
I hear the whistle being blown,
And the beast within me is released.
I get such a serious face,
You can see the seriousness in my red eyes,
The hardworking sweat drip down my face,
You see my furrow between my two eyebrows.
My veins begin to show.
I run so fast,
My big nostrils widen and close with every breath.
I become stronger than I ever have felt before,
I feel my muscles growing,
I see the black fur covering my body.
My height begins to rise,
I grow from 5’4 to 6’11.
The piercing redness in my eyes begins to sting.
If anyone gets in my way,
I will crush them!
Mentally I prepare myself for the worst,
But I manage to pull through,
And play like the Gorilla I am.
When I get the ball down low,
I take a strong power dribble
And push on my weak opponent to create my space,
I turn to the basket,
And finish with a powerful lay-up!!
When I receive the ball on the wing,
I spot up and feel the kangaroo being released,
So I jump and release the ball
With the perfect shooting form and score!!
We rush down the court to play dominating defense.
I pound on my chest,
And roar out “DEFENSE”!
I feel my hands getting big,
And my feet getting quicker for defense,
Defense is the best release for my Gorilla!
The kangaroo releases
As my teammate shoots,
I trust them when they shoot
And I do believe in their shot,
But it’s always natural that not every athlete makes every shot.
So as they shoot and barely miss,
I jump up as high as I can,
With all the muscle in my huge brown thighs
And make sure no one is able to get around me.
I always out jump my opponents,
Me being so short doesn’t matter anymore,
The fact is I play with mad hops like a kangaroo.
Playing as these two animals combined
And the confidence I have gained,
Also with my trustworthy team,
We are just tooo beastly!
